About & methodology
haikuvsluna.com is an independent comparison of Claude Haiku 5.5 and GPT-6 Luna, built to answer one question: which one is cheaper and better for your workload.
Where the numbers come from
Prices, thresholds and specs are taken from each vendor's own documentation. Benchmarks come from the vendors' launch figures and from Artificial Analysis. Core model facts live in shared data, workload presets are reused across the calculator and pricing pages, and every cost is produced by the same pricing function. Last verified 2026-10-09.

How the calculator prices a request
For each request it adds up the prompt length (new input + cache reads + cache writes) and picks the price tier that covers it: up to 100K tokens for Haiku 5.5, up to 272K for Luna 6. The whole request is then billed at that tier, as both vendors do:
cost = (input × in + cache reads × read + cache writes × write + output × k × out) ÷ 1,000,000 × batch × region
Batch is 0.5 when switched on. Region is 1.1 for Haiku with US-only inference. k is 1 by default, or 3.02 with "measured verbosity", the ratio of output tokens each model used to run the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index at max effort. Monthly cost assumes 30 days. The pricing code has unit tests at both thresholds.
What it does not model
Cache writes from the hit-rate slider (only reads are counted), differences between the two vendors' tokenizers, platform fees from resellers such as OpenRouter, fast or priority tiers, and regional premiums other than Haiku's US-only option. Treat results as list-price estimates and confirm on the vendor's pricing page before you commit.
Updates and corrections
When a vendor changes a price or publishes new figures, the data file is updated and the change is logged in the changelog. Spotted something wrong? Email support@haikuvsluna.com and it will be fixed, with credit if you want it.
